How the test works
The test starts at A1 and climbs level by level: three questions each on words and articles, grammar and a short text. Get two of three right and you move up. So you only answer questions that tell us something, usually 6 to 15. The test runs in your browser.
What the levels mean
- A1 (Beginner): You understand simple sentences about yourself and everyday things: your name, where you live, shopping, the time. Next goal: talk about your day and the past.
- A2 (Elementary): You manage everyday situations: appointments, the doctor, the flat, small talk. You can talk about the past. Next goal: follow longer conversations and give your opinion.
- B1 (Independent): You understand the main points when people speak clearly about work, school and free time, and you can handle most situations on your own. B1 is the level of the Deutsch-Test für Zuwanderer and many jobs.
- B2 (Upper intermediate): You understand complex texts and talk fluently and spontaneously with native speakers. B2 opens the door to most jobs and many university courses in Germany.
- C1 (Advanced): You use German flexibly and precisely, at work, at university and in everyday life, and you catch what is meant between the lines. Keep it sharp with real texts.
